Climbing Facilities

This gym gets a 3 out of 5. The gym is split into three rooms. Half of the first, the second, and the third are for bouldering, with the second room as the topout room. The first room has some top roping routes and maybe some lead climbing routes, but it is hard to tell if there is lead here. The third room was the newest and looked a lot more like the walls you see in the newer gyms. 3The routes are labeled by their color and the rating card is a color that corresponds to a chart on the walls posted everywhere. The climbing walls feel like painted plywood that is not too grippy or good for smearing. Some of the paint is chipped and parts of the gym are showing some wear. The holds seemed to be sort of old and some were very slippery. The floors are covered in mad rock pads that are velcroed together. There are also thin mats strewn about the gym to place over the seam wherever you are climbing. Some parts of the ground are not covered by mats and it is just concrete floor. It isn't in places that are super critical, but it is a little concerning.

Fitness Area

The fitness area here gets a 3 out of 5. The fitness area is in a small room upstairs in the back of the gym above the hangboard area. At first glance it seems pretty unimpressive. There are weights and different pieces of equipment strewn about and there isn't any cardio equipment.

Locker Rooms/ Bathrooms

The bathrooms here get a 2 out of 5. The bathrooms are not too great. There are two unisex bathrooms. One is in the main gym area and the other is near the party room. They are a little dirty and there aren't any signs about not wearing climbing shoes in them.

Parking

The parking here gets a 5. There is plenty of parking in the front and the back of the gym and it is very easy to find.

General Ambiance

This gym gets a 4 out of 5 for its ambiance. This gym still feels the same as the original gyms from 20 years ago when they were run by one or two avid climbers rather than an entire organization. The gym did not feel very clean and ventilated despite having all the doors open and there were random building materials strewn around the gym too. It seemed like a large majority of the people climbing were beginners and were climbing in their regular shoes. The best part about this gym were the staff, they were incredibly welcoming, nice and friendly. They were also very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions you had. In addition, this gym had two things that I loved, but I had never seen before. There was a really cozy little hangout room with sofas and a tv and there were tunnels built throughout the gym to climb through with a headlamp. There is another room with a foosball table as well as two campus walls with multiple hangboards.
